YOU’RE ONE STEP CLOSER TO HEALING
Life is filled with challenges—whether from major transitions, relationship or family issues, work stress, financial difficulties, loss, health problems, or academic pressures. It's common to face multiple stressors at once, making it hard to maintain balance and control. Chronic stress can contribute to mental health issues and complicate our efforts to do what we know will help us to feel better. It’s not uncommon to seek relief from our mental suffering by turning to substances, food, excessive work, gambling, shopping, self-harm, technology, or other compulsive behaviors. These activities feel helpful in the short-term, but over time, they weaken our ability to regulate our emotions and can get us stuck in a cycle of shame, guilt, and regret about the consequences and negative impact on our relationships and self-worth. Whatever the reason you are seeking therapy right now, I commend your strength and courage in reaching out. It’s a significant step toward healing. It might not feel like it right now, but I believe that you have everything you need within yourself to heal. We are stronger when we are working together!
WHAT IT'S LIKE TO WORK WITH ME
I view therapy as an equal partnership between us. I’m a professional helper but you are the expert in your life. I’ll be relying on your help to come up with a plan to resolve your problems in a way that feels right for you. I am genuinely curious and interested in you. I ask a lot of questions but you’re allowed to take a “pass”! I recognize that some people need more time to get comfortable before discussing certain topics. I’ll check in with you regularly to ask how you’re feeling about our session and work together. We will make adjustments along the way. As I get to know you, I’ll use my professional judgment to tell you what therapy approaches I think would be most helpful. There is no single approach for everyone. It was your choice to seek therapy and you will be in control of the therapy process. There will be times that I’ll push you outside of your comfort zone when I know it can help you. I will also encourage you to push through discomfort about sharing anything that’s bothering you about our relationship or how therapy is going, and I will do the same. My clients tell me that I make them feel at ease. In my opinion, one of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to connect with and affirm clients across a wide range of ages, and diverse life paths.
MY SPECIALTY AREAS
I work with individuals (ages 14+), couples, and families facing issues such as depression, anxiety, chronic stress, relationship conflicts, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, life transitions and challenging life events. I also specialize in supporting those concerned with substance misuse, either personally or in loved ones. I specialize in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. This transformative approach helps to address past traumas, heal from unmet emotional needs, and navigate complex emotions. EMDR is an effective treatment for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, stress, phobias, and panic disorders. It also strengthens our ability to tolerate fear of uncertainty and discomfort with sitting with our emotions when our instinct is to distract ourselves and avoid.
In addition to EMDR, I utilize a range of therapeutic approaches, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Practical tools for managing thoughts and behaviors. Mindfulness-Based Therapy: Techniques to stay present and manage stress. Solution-Focused Therapy: Future-oriented strategies for addressing current challenges. Interpersonal Therapy: Enhancing relationships by reflecting on our therapeutic relationship. Motivational Interviewing: Exploring and resolving barriers to change.
