“How does the therapy process work?”
Generally speaking, therapy is a collaborative partnership where we feel heard, understood and validated for our concerns. . .
It’s a place where we can safely explore the problematic ways that we think, feel, or relate to others. . .
And it’s an opportunity to learn how to overcome the barriers that might otherwise block us from our goals. . .
“What should I expect from my therapist?”
One of the most important elements of a successful therapy is the relationship between a therapist & client. In other words--ensuring a good match.
A person seeking services should feel confident that their therapist is someone who they can trust, someone who they can rely on, and someone who they can believe in. If a person’s needs fall outside of my areas of expertise, I can gladly suggest a clinician who may better meet their concerns. . .
“What will you ask?”
In our first meeting, there’s several types of questions that I might ask you to better understand the nature of your concerns. For example:
-
“What are some of the difficulties that you’ve been experiencing?”
-
“What was it that motivated you to seek help for these concerns?”
-
“What are some of the changes that you envision for yourself moving forward?”
-
“How would you know when the therapy process would no longer be necessary?”
You’ll find that my style of gathering information is easy-going and relaxed, and that I allow people’s stories to unfold at a pace that’s comfortable for them.
